“Balmoral in Bloom” - 1221 x 915 - is a mixed media celebration of childhood memories and the joy of having a part of my life growing up in Mosman. This painting is a tribute to the carefree, sun-soaked days spent at Balmoral Beach, where time seemed to stretch endlessly between swims, hot chips, and sailing boats. Using vibrant colour, layered textures, and a playful, almost naïve style, I’ve sought to capture the way childhood memories feel—imperfect, vivid, and full of movement. The sweeping brushstrokes and drips reflect the messy beauty of nostalgia, while the inclusion of iconic landmarks and details such as boats, cockatoos, Australian native flora and the Sydney skyline anchor the work in a familiar landscape. My practice as both an artist and a teacher is rooted in storytelling, emotion, and connection to place. In this work, I wanted to honour not just the physical beauty of Balmoral, but the emotional imprint it leaves—how it becomes part of your inner landscape long after you’ve left.
